From 30 September to 05 October 2024, the XVІI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Ukrainian School of Mining Engineering 2024” was held, organised by the Department of Mining Engineering and Education of the Dnipro University of Technology. The conference was attended by representatives of the coal and mining industries of Ukraine, Poland and Germany. The conference featured presentations on underground mining and processing technologies, mining engineering, waste management and digitalisation of the mining industry.

Nataliia Bariatska and colleagues from the Dnipro University of Technology, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering and Education Volodymyr Bondarenko and Associate Professor Dmytro Malashkevych presented a report on the workflow for optimising, designing and planning underground mining operations in the Micromine Beyond software. Additionally, a workshop demonstrating the capabilities of Micromine Beyond software for optimisation, design and planning was presented as part of the panel discussion on the Digital Transformation of the Mining Industry.

The stope optimisation is based on determining the ‘value’ of each block, which is the revenue from the sale of marketable products reduced by all expenses. Optimisation is based on a block resource model, taking into account geological, mining, processing and other parameters. Underground mine design tools allow to design inclined ramps, horizontal and vertical mine workings according to specified parameters, and surface infrastructure, development and blast drilling. Mining planning involves the mining blocks creation, estimation of recoverable reserves with the setting of raw material types, mining and related tasks and mining sequences.

The proposed workflow (generalised algorithm) is based on the advanced tools for the entire cycle of operations in unified software environment Micromine Beyond.
